The third of five generations of women who made everything from drapes to lingerie, Sacker began sewing in the 1920s, and continued as commercial patterns and fabrics brought sophisticated designs into middle-class American homes. Dr. Chmielewski is author of the book Haume Couture Fashioned by Betty Sacker: Folklore of an American Home Dressmaker and Her Students. Dig in your own closets and bring an artifact and short story to tell about it!
