Community Kwanzaa

Join us for this joyous African-American celebration of family and community. Kwanzaa is a 7 day celebration (December 26-January 1) originated in the United States and is now celebrated throughout the African Diaspora. Kwanzaa was created by Dr. Maulana Karenga and this celebration honors African-American heritage, history, and culture through the seven principles known as Nguzo Saba. Since 1994, the Govan storytellers have been demonstrating Kwanzaa ceremonies in public venues. A presentation customized for its audience includes a reenactment of the seventh night of Kwanzaa, which includes the ceremony for the Karmau(feast).With song, storytelling and food this spirited event comes alive with audience participation and culminates with each participant presented with a zawadii
