Note on methodology: To produce these results, the U.S. Department of Commerce relies on a voluntary program of survey completion by arrivals to the U.S. Only 25 states in CY 2016 had enough survey responses to produce results. Additionally, and also related to the number of surveys completed, annual volume results are very volatile from year to year for the 25 states receiving these results.
In order to mitigate the volatility and get a clearer picture of Overseas trends, MOTT looks at rolling two-year averages of the U.S. Department of Commerce data. This analysis indicated a modest increase in volume (42,000 and 3 percent) to MA when the average of CYs 2016 and 2015 is compared to the average of CYs 2015 and 2014.
MOTT also monitors Overseas flights at Logan International Airport and Overseas activity in MA, with data on VISA credit card holders. Both of these data reflect a growth in volume for 2016 compared to 2015.
