On Sunday, November 12, from 1:00 - 3:00 PM, Annie's Book Stop of Worcester welcomes grandmaster Jane Yolen and Heidi Stemple to our 65 James Street address for an afternoon of fantasy, poetry, and children's stories. Both authors will chat, perhaps read, and sign books for the afternoon. Space is limited, so RSVPs to our Facebook page are strongly suggested, as well as pre-purchase of Jane's latest release, The Emerald Circus, and we will save it for the signing. Jane Yolen has been called the Hans Christian Anderson of America and the Aesop of the 20th Century. She is a grandmaster author, as well as a poet, a teacher of writing and literature, and a reviewer of children's literature. Jane Yolen's books and stories have won the Caldecott Medal, two Nebula Awards, two Christopher Medals, the World Fantasy Award, three Mythopoeic Fantasy Awards, the Golden Kite Award, the Jewish Book Award, the World Fantasy Association's Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Association of Jewish Libraries Award among many others. Her titles, such as Owl Moon, How do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?, Briar Rose, and The Devil's Arithmetic are classics of children's literature. Heidi Stemple didn't want to be a writer when she grew up. In fact, after she graduated from college, she became a probation officer in Florida. It wasn't until she was 28 years old that she gave in and joined the family business, publishing her first short story in a book called Famous Writers and Their Kids Write Spooky Stories. The famous writer was her mom, author Jane Yolen. Since then, she has published twenty books and numerous short stories and poems, mostly for children. Heidi, her two daughters, her mom, and a couple of cats live in Massachusetts on a big old farm with two houses.
