ARTISTS IN THE GALLERY: Sunday, September 17, 2-4pm DANE DONATO of Greenfield, MA Diddley Bow Making Workshop? Call or email to preregister $40 includes all your matl's At the end of this hands-on workshop, you will be taking home a diddley bow. Also called the One String, Pluck-Tar, and Jitter Bug, the diddley bow was considered a starter instrument for budding guitarists. Little known outside of the Deep South, its influence on musicians who would develop the blues and early rock and roll cannot be understated. In fact, Ellas Otha Bates, who adopted the stage name of Bo Diddley, named himself after the Diddley Bow. Everything you need will be provided, including a high-quality wooden cigar box, wooden neck, steel guitar string, tuning machine, and necessary tools. Even someone who has never picked up a file or drill will go home with a working instrument with a lot of soul. If we are lucky, Dane will give us a performance of a little Beowulf in Anglo Saxon and Modern English on his reproduction of a 7th century lyre!
