Enter a maze of rooms alternating between light and dark, decorated like stage sets evoking America's past based on a variety of themes. Explore a bright apple green bedroom with lush jungle-like wallpaper, an early American kitchen awaiting a crowd of guests, a breathtaking green-and-white dining room overlooking Gloucester Harbor, and a round book tower built around quirky wooden curtains. Folk art, colored glass, architectural salvage, and curiosities fill the house. A National Historic Landmark, Beauport was the summer home of Henry Davis Sleeper, one of America's first professional interior designers. Get to know Sleeper; his housekeeper, Mary Landergan Wonson; his fascinating neighbors; Beauport's second owners, the McCanns; and the house's many colorful guests. Programs include tea on the terrace, fireworks over Gloucester Harbor, and specialty tours. Museum shop. Open late May - mid-October, Tuesday - Saturday. Tours on the hour, 10 am - 5 pm, with the last tour at 4 pm. Beauport, the Sleeper-McCann House, is one of thirty-six historic properties owned and operated by Historic New England.
