Offering a broad array of experiences, the Wakefield Estate has so much to share with the visitor: formal gardens, remnants of the family farm, woodland trails, our present day livestock of chickens, sheep, and a llama named Jack and more! Polly Wakefield wished that her land, trees and gardens be for the enjoyment of all -- and it is Polly's memory and legacy that has inspired the Wakefield Charitable Trust to carry out her wishes. The Mary M. B. Wakefield Charitable Trust promotes life-long participatory learning using the land and resources of the Wakefield estate. Through collaborative partnerships with schools and community organizations, the Wakefield Trust carries out this mission through providing educational opportunities, tours, presentations, workshops, hands-on training, internships and other programs covering a variety of subjects, including local history, ecology, horticulture, agriculture, archival work and historic preservation.
