Yiddish Book Center
Visit "a lebedike velt," a lively world of Jewish culture.
1021 West St., Amherst, MA 01002
The Yiddish Book Center is a nonprofit organization working to recover, celebrate, and regenerate Yiddish and modern Jewish literature and culture. Visitors are always welcome at our architecturally distinctive building, designed to recall a shtetl--the iconic Jewish town of Eastern Europe--and set on a ten-acre apple orchard at the edge of the campus of Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. We're a two-hour drive from Boston, three hours from New York, and one hour from the Berkshires. The world's first Yiddish museum, the Yiddish Book Center is home to extensive permanent and visiting exhibits on Yiddish and Jewish culture. We also offer a full schedule of concerts, films, talks, family programs, and other special events; visit our events calendar to learn about upcoming programs. Free guided public tours, as well as group tours, are also available.
