The Frederick Collection: Two dozen grand pianos by major makers, c.1790-1928 in Vienna, Paris, Leipzig, and London, in concert-worthy playing order, are displayed in Ashburnham's former library building. The pianos, matched to the lives of important composers, are the basis of fall-and-spring concerts by outstanding pianists, sometimes with other instruments or voice. The Collection is open to the public for hands-on lecture-tours, Thursdays and Saturdays, year-around, also by appointment. The concerts, since 1985, are at Ashburnham Community Church, just up the street. The pianos make a whole new sense of the music, explaining why the composers wrote as they did. Concerts admission is $15 adult, $5 youth and student. Collection tour admission is freewill donation.
