Haunted Houses, trick-or-treating, pumpkin shows and more!
Halloween is a great time to gather the whole family for spooktacular fun in New England’s most picturesque season. Non-scary options for the wee ones abound on Trustees properties, and the statewide conservation nonprofit has expanded grown-up Halloween festivities across the state. With more than 20 Halloween-themed events happening this month, The Trustees have multiple options to choose from, whether you’re looking to take younger children to a costume party or gather the friends for some frights at a haunted house.
All month long, head over to The Incredible Naumkeag Pumpkin show for a fun filled event for all ages, featuring thousands of pumpkins and gourds, and over 400 jack o’ lanterns. The gardens will be decorated with hundreds of pumpkins grown on the Naumkeag farm, as well as botanical arrangements, myriad lights and more. Guests will encounter a mind-bending vortex tunnel, smoke bubbles, a shire-inspired woodland village, a bonfire for s’mores, and concessions. Continuing the pumpkin fun, check out Powisset Farm’s Pumpkinpalooza, where children can learn how to make all sorts of fall treats involving pumpkins.

If you’ve got little ones looking for something active and educational, be sure not to miss Halloween Family Night Hike at World’s End, a guided walk to meet all sorts of critters that only come out at night. For something to satisfy your little monster’s sweet tooth, you won’t want to miss Appleton Farms Pumpkin Trail and S’mores event, so get your best costume on and come out to enjoy this non-scary walk illuminated by over 100 pumpkins and enjoy a s’more with your favorite barnyard animal.
And how about things to do on Halloween itself? Look no further than the Wee Halloween Costume Parties being held at Chestnut Hill Farm and Rocky Woods. Bring your pre-school aged kiddo for fun event with crafts, snacks, and more. And if you’re looking for a truly special trick-or-treat experience, come out to Naumkeag on Halloween night for the Trustees All-Ages Trick or Treat, featuring local businesses, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, an end of night bonfire, and of course, lots of candy!

Looking for a fright? The Naumkeag Haunted House will surely tickle your spooky bone, as one of the area’s best hauntings, this event isn’t for the faint of heart. For the 21+ crowd, don’t miss Boos and Brews: Adult Pumpkin Trail over at The Stevens-Coolidge Place. If you find yourself wanting to reconnect with nature this Halloween, come out to the Fruitlands Museum for the Adult Night Halloween Owl Prowl. This event will have you venturing into the dark Fruitlands forest to try and find some of the local owls, as well as enjoying a post hike bonfire with wine and beer.
There are even more haunted happenings planned across the state this month, so be sure to check out thetrustees.org/thingstodo.
