Massachusetts boasts some of the best destinations for a summer getaway, regardless of whether you’re looking for a charming spot to enjoy the summer sun or a trip to the city to hit the town.

AAA Southern New England has helped its members book vacations all throughout Massachusetts, and Horizons, the official monthly publication for the Club, offers its recommendations for fun, affordable, and local summer getaways at some of its members’ favorite haunts:

This seaport city boasts 375 years of American heritage and maritime history. You can explore Salem’s vibrant waterfront, gander through world-class museums, and experience boutique shopping and exceptional dining.

Stay in the heart of downtown Salem at the historic Hawthorne Hotel, and start your day with a full breakfast for two. Soak in Salem’s culture and history with two tickets to two of the city’s main attractions — your choice — including the Peabody Essex Museum, House of Seven Gables, and Salem Witch Museum.

Treat yourself to dinner at Nathaniel’s, the Hawthorne Hotel’s AAA Three Diamond restaurant, and enjoy two-for-one entrees as part of your AAA vacation package.

Be sure to also document your visit to Salem with a souvenir! AAA members save 10 percent on their entire purchase at Salem Vintage Photography, where you can do a photo shoot using costumes and props from five fun themes.

Martha’s Vineyard

Martha’s Vineyard is a classic Massachusetts escape with a unique charm, and it has something for everyone. Spend time outdoors relaxing on the island’s gorgeous beaches, hiking through wildlife refuges or exploring the Victorian gingerbread cottages of Oak Bluffs.

Spend two nights at the Clarion Martha’s Vineyard in Edgartown, a modern inn in a quaint old whaling port, and take a day to enjoy the island’s picturesque scenery by bicycle with two one-day bicycle rentals. The AAA package also includes two one-day MV Transit Authority passes, as well as Continental breakfast at the inn and free parking.

No matter how you choose to explore the Island, don’t miss the Martha’s Vineyard Museum. The museum is the steward of three historic lighthouses on different parts of the Island, and each one boasts spectacular views of the surrounding landscape and harbor. Admission is just $5 for adults and is free for children under 12.

Are you itching for some summer city buzz? Treat yourself to a few days in the heart of Boston’s Back Bay, and keep busy with all that this historic city has to offer.

The centrally located Westin Copley Place Hotel is a perfect jumping-off point for exploring this bustling city. The hotel is just minutes from Trinity Church, Boston Common, Newbury Street, Copley Place Mall and the Shops at the Prudential Center and is convenient to public transport. Take advantage of the hotel’s amenities, including the Four Diamond-rated Turner Fisheries Restaurant and an indoor pool. Park your car for 50% off, or simply take the commuter rail or the T to save even more.

Coply Square

AAA also offers deals on guided tours so you can explore all the city’s sights in style and be sure you won’t miss a thing! Enjoy Boston’s breezy fall weather by taking a bicycle tour with Urban AdvenTours, where you’ll save 15% with your AAA card. Boston Tours also offers AAA members 10 percent off adult and child rates on its air-conditioned mini-coaches.

End a jam-packed day of sightseeing in Boston with a night out on the town! AAA members can save $10 on tickets to the Blue Man Group and $12.50 on tickets to Shear Madness.
