Culinary Tourism Part of the Visitor Experience in the Bay State

(Boston) – Massachusetts’ distinct culinary and agricultural scene is blossoming this time of year, with hundreds of farmers markets and agricultural fairs taking place across the Bay State now through October.

The Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism (MOTT) has compiled these activities into a handy Culinary Calendar for visitors and residents wishing to savor local food and beverages, while also enjoying some of the Bay State’s most beautiful scenery.

The state’s 7,755 farms produce more than $492 million in agricultural products annually, while helping to protect over 523,000 acres of open space, according to the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture. In 2014, Massachusetts generated over $1 billion in food and agricultural exports.

At the recent opening of the new Boston Public Market, Governor Charlie Baker praised farmers markets for helping “to ensure the continued viability of family farms and local food production.”

Here is a map of all farmers markets, fairs, and agricultural events in the Commonwealth.

“From our iconic agricultural fairs and amazing seafood to apple picking or tasting local brews, Massachusetts’ culinary choices will whet everyone’s appetites,” says MOTT Executive Director Rich Doucette.
