ArtsEmerson: The World On Stage presents: XXY. Things get complicated for 15 year-old Alex, who was born as an inter-sexed child--something her parents never really dealt with. When a friend of the family comes to visit with a doctor and his son, it is revealed that Alex's father intended for the doctor to operate on her. Instead, Alex begins to fall in love with the doctor's son...but what will happen when he discovers she is a hermaphrodite? Acclaimed Argentinean director Lucia Puenzo makes a brilliant feature film debut in this multi-layered, raw, and tender coming-of-age tale, complicated by gender confusion. Winner of the Grand Prix at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival and nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
