Carol Kostecki, a well-known pisanki artist, returns to lead a hands-on demonstration of making pisanki (the art of dying eggs for a traditional Easter holiday) in the style especially popular in Eastern Poland andUkraine. All cultures celebrate holidays in different ways following unique traditions. The name Pisanki comes from the Polish verb pisac, "to write." The eggs are decorated by the use of wax flowing from a kistka, a tool used to produce a richly ornamented geometric and floral design etched onto a previously colored egg with traditional Polish symbols of Easter. The practice of coloring Easter eggs is very much alive in Poland today as well as enjoyed by people all over the world. Appropriate for adults and children 12 and up.
