Times: 8:30am - 4:30pm
Description:
The "Art on Loan" program which displays the work of local artists on the meeting room walls in Barnstable Town Hall, features the photographs of Kathleen "Kat" Szmit through January 18, 2013. Lucy Loomis through mid October.
Kathleen "Kat" Szmit is a reporter/photographer for The Barnstable Patriot in Hyannis. She got her start in photography as a child living in Southwestern New Hampshire, in a small town along the Connecticut River, where she delighted in drives through the countryside, camera in hand. Favorite subjects then (and now) were old barns, trees of all types, and the cows that roamed the fields of the dairy farms in the region.
A relocation to Cape Cod almost a decade ago provided Kat with an endless array of scenes to photograph, from the beautiful waters around the peninsula, to its myriad walking paths, cozy villages, and so much more.
"Taking photos is more than a hobby; it is a means of feeding the soul," said Kat. "I hope my images delight and inspire, while encouraging all to appreciate the marvelous beauty that is Cape Cod."
The Artwork on Loan program provides a public venue for local artists to display their work. Visitors who use the meeting rooms will discover an inviting and attractive environment and will have an opportunity to learn about some of the Cape's local artists.
