Historian Robert Hall will map the lifespans of several dozen 18th and early 19th century African Americans, focusing on several exemplary vignettes situated in the size and geographical distribution of black populations in colonial New England. He will explore the lives of poet Phillis Wheatley, parishioner at Old South Meeting House and the first African-American to publish a book, and Crispus Attucks, a sailor and ropemaker of African and Native American descent who was shot and killed in the Boston Massacre, along with lesser-known figures, including Venture Smith, Elizabeth Freeman, and Onesimus. $6; FREE FOR OSMH MEMBERS
