Earth & Planetary Science Gallery RE-OPENING LECTURE

Francis A. Macdonald, Assistant Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Harvard; Member reception to follow. Global warming is rapidly melting the Arctic ice sheets and opening up more of the Arctic Ocean for geologic exploration. Some of this exploration is purely economic, yet some is also enriching our understanding about the tectonic, climatic, and biological evolution of Earth. Francis A. Macdonald will discuss his group's research and recent developments in understanding the geological evolution of the Arctic. Following the talk, HMNH members are invited to further explore these and other ideas that are on display in the newly renovated Earth & Planetary Science gallery. Free and open to the public Parking/Directions: Free event parking for evening lectures in the 52 Oxford Street Garage. A 7-8 minute walk through historic Harvard Yard from the Harvard Square red line T stop.
