Pat Pattison Songwriter's Workshop

Dates: Sat, Nov 3, 2012
Times: 10:00am - 4:00pm

Description:
All the elements of your song should work together to support the song's central message and emotion. This seminar will show you tools and techniques to make your song stronger and more focused, using structure and phrasing to highlight important ideas, and deepen emotional impact -- techniques that have helped Pat's students, including John Mayer and Gillian Welch, win Grammys and write number one songs. In the afternoon portion of the seminar, Pat will listen to songs from participants, taking time to work out any kinks, focusing on prosody between the intent of the song and structure, rhyme, rhythm, point of view, phrasing and many other tools that have proven so useful to seminar participants across the globe. No one demands more of a song than Pat, and he can show you how to take it all the places it could go to cross the "finished" line, while millions cheer. Please note that due to time constraints, it is not possible to guarantee that all participants will have a song critiqued. Songs will be critiqued in random order. Pat Pattison is a Professor at Berklee College of Music, where he teaches Lyric Writing and Poetry. More information on Pat can be found on his website, patpattison.com. In addition to his four books, Songwriting Without Boundaries, Writing Better Lyrics, The Essential Guide to Lyric Form and Structure, and The Essential Guide to Rhyming, Pat has developed three online lyric writing courses, one on poetry and one on creative writing available through Berkleemusic.com. He has filmed a series of lectures and masterclasses, available through Songwork.com and has written over 50 articles for various magazines and blogs. Pat continues to present songwriting clinics across the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK. Several of his students have won Grammys, including John Mayer and Gillian Welch. Registration Fee: $75/$60 for Cotuit Center for the Arts members, Berklee Alumni, Members of professional musicians' organizations and students.
