ArtsEmerson: The World On Stage presents Best Years Of Our Lives. Director William Wyler's melodrama follows the social readjustment of three servicemen returning home from WWII. Surprisingly sober, considering it was released soon after the Allies' victory when movies were filled with soaring patriotism, the film features an all-star cast that includes Dana Andrews, Frederic March and Myrna Loy. Wyler also cast Harold Russell, a real veteran who had lost his hands in the war, revealing the crises of each veteran with clear-eyed restraint.
