LeWitticisms

Dates: Thu, Nov 1, 2012
Times: 6:30pm, 8pm

Description:
We partner with Williams College's Contemporary Dance Ensemble (CoDa) to present an evening of dance and music inspired by Sol LeWitt's wall drawings on display. In addition to performances of original choreography by faculty and students, the evening features new work by composer and artist Tristan Perich. Perich's work is inspired by the aesthetic simplicity of math, physics, and code. The WIRE Magazine describes his compositions as "an austere meeting of electronic and organic." The Wall Street Journal described his latest circuit album 1-Bit Symphony by saying, "its oscillations have an intense, hypnotic force and a surprising emotional depth." This event is presented in conjunction the exhibition Sol LeWitt: The Well-Tempered Grid on view at the Williams College Museum of Art September 15-December 9, 2012. This the first exhibition to focus on the centrality of the grid in LeWitt's art. The exhibition focuses on LeWitt's use of the grid as a generative matrix for his artistic production over the span of nearly five decades, from 1960 until his death in 2007.
