Springfield Armory National Historic Site commemorates and preserves the history of our Nations first armory, established in 1794. Managed together with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Springfield Technical Community College and the National Park Service, the site holds many layers of history within its buildings and grounds. In 1787, blood spilt during Shays Rebellion outraged George Washington and influenced the Constitutional Convention. In the early 19th century, production of the first interchangeable parts for weapons spurred our countrys industrial revolution. Now home to the worlds largest historic American military firearms collection invites all visitors to share its history and beauty overlooking the Connecticut River and Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts.
