TEAM TIDBITS:
BROCKTON ROX
The Brockton Rox home is named after a native of the "City of Champions." Alfred Campanelli, grew up with his brothers, Michael, Joseph, Nicholas, and sister Ann in a four-story tenement on Summer Street in Brockton, Massachusetts.
In 1947, along with his brothers and brother-in-law Salvatore DeMarco, Mr. Campanelli founded the Campanelli Companies. The company focused their early efforts on building single-family homes that veterans could purchase at reduced rates through Veterans Administration and Federal Housing Authority loan programs. Through Campanelli Companies, Mr. Campanelli reached out and aided thousands of people in achieving the American Dream of home-ownership. Today, the Campanelli Companies, based in Braintree, are nationally known commercial real estate developers.
In 1958, Mr. Campanelli moved to Schaumburg, Illinois. In Schaumberg, Mr. Campanelli donated $3.85 million to pay off the mortgage and finance the building of an addition to the local YMCA. Though living 1000 miles away, Mr. Campanelli has always had a special place in his heart for Brockton. He donated $2 million to the City of Brockton to be used for the creation of a building or project that would substantially benefit the people of Brockton. In turn, the City of Brockton used that money to help finance the building of a baseball stadium for the Brockton Rox, a stadium which proudly wears the Campanelli name and continues to serve as a hub for community events.
LOWELL SPINNERS ![]()
The Spinners are celebrating their 15th season in Lowell in 2010, as a Class A Affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. The present owner, Drew Weber, has owned the team since 1997.
The first year of Spinners baseball at Alumni field in 1996 drew 95,986 fans. Attendance increased to 106,862 in 1997. In 1998, the Spinners moved into the brand new Edward LeLacheur Park, which seats 4,797 and has a standing room capacity of 5,030. Attendance rose to 174,020 fans with 24 sell-outs. In 1999, the Spinners sold out 34 of 38 games, drawing a team record 180,077 fans. The Spinners filled LeLacheur Park to 102% of its capacity, ranking the Spinners second among the nearly 200 Minor League baseball teams across the nation.
Edward LeLacheur Park, located on the banks of the Merrimack River near the UMass-Lowell campus, offers a dramatic view of both the flowing Merrimack River and the distinct red arches of the Aiken Street Bridge. The facility also houses UMass-Lowell Riverhawks baseball and was designed by the HOK Sports Facilities Group, the company famous for creating modern ballparks with the nostalgic charm often associated with older facilities. Camden Yards in Baltimore and Coors Field in Colorado were both designed by HOK. From its groundbreaking, the facility became a key part of Lowell's downtown revitalization.
The Lowell Spinners are the Boston Red Sox of tomorrow! Some familiar names to come out of the Lowell Spinners are: Shea Hillenbrand, David Eckstein, Abe Alvarez, and current Red Sox players Jonathan Papelbon, Kevin Youkilis, Jacoby Ellsbury, and Clay Buchholz who all had key contributions for the Red Sox as they went on to win the '07 World Series.
The Spinners believe in Spinnertainment offering a full slate of exciting promotions, contests, and giveaways at every Spinners game and are famous for their inventive, original promotional ideas including their BOBBLE HEAD nights! Bobble headed recently are the late American writer, Jack Kerouac, NESN’s Heidi Watney, and on August 11, former Red Sox player, Lou Merloni!
PITTSFIELD COLONIALS ![]()
Pittsfield Colonials home games are played at historic Wahconah Park located in downtown Pittsfield in the heart of scenic Berkshire County. Constructed in 1919, the 3,500 seating capacity ballpark has been home to professional baseball for nearly 100 years and remains one of the last wooden grandstand pro ballparks in the country. More than 200 former Pittsfield minor league ballplayers have played in the Major Leagues.
Wahconah Park’s classic and intimate design offers fans a ballpark experience that harkens back to the early decades of attending a ballgame. Unique to ballparks everywhere is its home plate facing west that creates one of baseball’s most unusual events on sunny summer evenings—the 20-minute Sun Delay.
Pittsfield Colonials Field Manager / Director of On-Field Operations is
Brian Daubach, formerly of the Boston Red Sox where he averaged 21 homers and 75 RBI per year, and gained a reputation as a "Dirt Dog" for his style of play. He later received a World Series Championship ring as a member of the 2004 Boston Red Sox. In his seven-season major league career, he compiled a .259 batting average with 93 home runs and 333 RBI in 661 games.

WORCESTER TORNADOES
The Tornadoes are managed by Worcester native Rich Gedman, a former Major League catcher with the Boston Red Sox, [1980 – 1990] who made his debut for the Sox in September 1980 pinch-hitting for Carl Yastrzemski and in 1981 took over [shared] catching duties when Carlton Fisk left the Sox.
The Worcester Tornadoes are named after the destructive tornado that hit Worcester on June 9, 1953; their mascot’s name is, what else, TWISTER!
The Tornadoes, in their first season, [2005] won the Can-Am League Championship, sweeping the Quebec Capitales three games to zero. After beating Quebec in the first two games at Stade Municipal, the Tornadoes clinched the championship on their home field on September 15, 2005, the 100th anniversary of the ‘Father’ Fitton Field.
