If you ever dreamed of turning stone into art, this is your opportunity. Scott Cahaly is a professional artist and experienced teacher. His workshops will equip you with basic techniques, experience in using tools, and an initiation into the craft of stone sculpture. His four-mornings workshop (ages 13+) provide instruction for beginners and guidance for more experienced carvers. For teens 12+ there are 4-day workshops during February and April school vacations. Novice Rock Climbing Clinic

Soar to new heights with this small-group, rock climbing course in western Massachusetts. Zoar Outdoor is a short drive from several excellent climbing areas, so there’s lots of time “on the rock.” The clinic emphasizes top-rope climbing where the rope is anchored by the instructor at the top of each climb. Students learn to climb and belay as well as to move smoothly and with minimal effort on the rock.

Sleep on the Mayflower II

Spend both days visiting the living history exhibits, then spend the night taking over a full scale reproduction of the original Mayflower that brought English settlers to New England. Onboard, you’ll learn to tie sailor’s knots, row the shallop, and try food that the pilgrims would have eaten on their long journey here. Roam the ship and choose where you will bunk for the night.

Hands-on History Workshop

If so the American Antiquarian Society is a “must visit.”  Director James David Moran is planning a workshop that will allow participants to interact with the collections and pick the brains of a leading historian. The AAS is the third oldest historical society in the United States and also boasts possession of two thirds of all known books printed in the U.S. from 1640 to 1820.
