Oyster fans, and families looking for a fun day by the water, will enjoy the Wareham Oyster Festival on April 27 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The festival will feature music, select crafters and vendors, paddleboat and kayak rentals on the Wareham River, and of course plenty of shellfish and other foods. The event showcases Wareham's 54 miles of coastline and thriving shellfish industry. It will be held on Main Street in Wareham, which will be closed to vehicular traffic, and is being presented by the Wareham Village Association. The Wareham Oyster Festival will be preceded by a week of oyster-related fun throughout the community. Details are available at warehamvillage.org. From April 21 through 27, 16 local restaurants will present delicious oyster dishes. An interactive map found at the Wareham Village Association's website, warehamvillage.org, will show smartphone users the location of the next stop on the trail. The Oyster Festival Gala, a fundraiser for the Wareham Village Association, will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on April 25 at the former Tobey Memorial Library, a beautiful building, long closed, now in private ownership. Tickets are $40 and available by e-mailing info@warehamvillage.org. Learn how to prepare oysters, the health benefits of a diet rich in seafood, and how oysters improve our environment as part of the Speakers Series. A complete schedule of Speakers Series events is available at warehamvillage.org. The Oyster Festival itself will be kicked off by the first annual Oyster Festival 5K, a mostly flat and scenic course along the Wareham waterfront. Registration is available online at active.com.
