Cape Ann enjoys one of the most active arts and cultural communities in the country equally balanced between its history as an art colony and contemporary reputation as an arts and cultural destination. Nestled throughout Gloucester and Rockport, the Cape Ann Artisans Tour provides the inside view of what it's like to live and work in this inspiring enclave. The 31st Annual Tour will take place June 21 & 22nd and Columbus Day weekend, October 11-13th. The studio visits are self-guided and follow the coastline around the island. All 23 studios are open to the public from 10 am - 5 pm on each day. For the first time ever, the Artisans will host a Holiday Show at Rockport Art Association on December 5th and 6th timed appropriately with "Shop Rockport" evening. Over the years, people have come from across the country and around the corner to enjoy visits to these intimate locations across Cape Ann. The Artisans themselves are a diverse group consisting of natives to the area and many landed here from other places-but each has drawn inspiration from the "northern" Cape's unique blend of light and landscapes. Cape Ann Magazine's recent article entitled Atelier Adventure, now available on the CAA website, gives an insider's view of the tour. A typical tour visitor will see at least a half-dozen studios in one day.
