Performing only on Baroque instruments or modern replicas, the Irish Baroque Orchestra (IBO) seeks to re-create the original performance styles of the Baroque period. This performance features the IBO exploring the theme of "Ireland's Golden Age," a fascinating snapshot of the musical scene in 18th century Dublin, when composers from all over Europe converged on the city seeking inspiration and patronage. IBO's "Golden Age" program includes works by Handel, Vivaldi, Geminiani, Pasquali and Turlough Carolan (amongst others).
The orchestra performs over 20 concerts a year and continues to receive widespread critical acclaim around the globe. As the ensemble-in-residence at the National Concert Hall Dublin (as well as a recently finished residency at the Dublin Institute of Technology), the IBO regularly works with students on Baroque repertoire and playing techniques. Their "Flights of Fantasy," a recording of early Italian chamber music, was released on the Avie label to international acclaim, and listed as one of the top recordings of 2010 by the New Yorker. Their goal is to allow audiences to experience the beauty of Baroque music as it was intended to be heard.
