There are few things as extraordinary as the late works of master composers - intoxicating music that is intimate and personal, highly expressive, and rich with the patina of experience. Chameleon Arts Ensemble celebrates this astonishing phenomenon with Brahms' Clarinet Sonata No. 1 in f minor, Op. 120, one of the most bountiful late harvests in any composer's output; Ravel's Chansons Madecasses for mezzo-soprano, flute, cello, and piano; Charles Ives' final published work, Sunrise for voice, violin, and piano; and Georges Enescu's Piano Quartet No. 2. Enescu composed the Quartet the height of World War II, combining folk inflections with late Romantic harmony and impeccable craft to create a supreme masterpiece, wholly unique and deeply affecting.
