My Left Foot (1989, 103 minutes) stars Daniel Day-Lewis as Christy Brown in Jim Sheridan's adaptation of the autobiography of the Irish artist afflicted with cerebral palsy and attendant demons. The role won Day-Lewis his first Academy Award for Best Actor. This film is the second in the "Artists Behaving Badly" series, created by the Clark's Steve Satullo. Artists tend by nature to be transgressive, in the life as well as the work. While the Clark usually celebrates the boldness of the artist's work, this film series takes an ironical look at examples of bad behavior conducted during the artist's life--be it forgery or fornication; drugs or drink; mayhem, madness, or even murder.
