The Drover's Roast is a reenactment of the days of huge cattle drives where the cowhands, known as drovers, and their families would gather for a feast and festivities that would be the envy of anyone. Prime rib is hand rubbed with an age-old recipe of herbs and spices then slowly roasted for hours over a huge fire pit. Fresh chowder of the sea and fritters are made in antique cast iron cauldrons over open fires. There is an endless feast, 10 tables long, including the fire roasted prime rib, chicken, fish, a variety of fresh vegetables from the local harvest, roasted potatoes, corn on the cob, homemade rolls and muffins, and deep dish apple pie topped with a big dollop of fresh, real whipped cream. This is all served under a big tent and in a rustic New England barn after cooking in the neighboring field. Horsedrawn wagon rides take you through the sun-kissed meadows where the cattle lazily graze. There is live entertainment, demonstrations by craftspeople that are also selling their wares, and a fife and drum corp. The uniformed militia even marches through. There isn't a better way to spend a New England day sending off summer and welcoming fall with family and friends. Tickets must be purchased in advance $58.00 per adult including tax & gratuity $25.00 per child under 12 including tax & gratuity 508-867-2345
