Roast Meat Hill Neighborhood Walking Tour

In 2013, Historic New England will be exploring Everybody's History with a series of programs, lectures, walking tours and more--looking into the everyday lives of those who surrounded our museums through the years. On Saturday, June 8, local historian Jim McAllister of Derby Square Tours will explore Salem's 'Roast Meat Hill' neighborhood. This little known area was once home to Salem's African-American population in the nineteenth century and Italian population in the twentieth. Learn about artists, actors, and musicians that have also populated the neighborhood through the years.

The tour meets at the Gedney House, located at 21 High Street, on June 8 at 10:00 a.m. The cost is $15.00 for the general public and $10.00 for Historic New England members. Please call 978-744-0440 or visit www.HistoricNewEngland.org to purchase tickets now.
