Jetties beach is the best place in Nantucket to view fireworks and celebrate the Independence Day. Each year, families and friends set up on the beach at Jetties beach and marvel at the spectacular fireworks show, over the harbor. The amazing firework display is very popular and draws quite a crowd. Leading up to the fireworks at night, there are many activities to take part in throughout the day. At 9 AM, there is a reading of The Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights at the Unitarian Universalist Church. Between 10AM-12PM, Main St is closed, and hosts an array of old time fair activites such as a pie-eating contest, watermelon eating contest, face-painting, and more. Another fun annual event is the water hose fight on Main St. featuring antique vs local fire trucks, and soaking everyone in the process! There is usually a mini children's bicycle parade from Federal to Main St. In the afternoon, children's activities and contests are held on Jetties beach including three-legged races, tug-of-war, and more. Finally, fireworks are set off from a barge at Jetties Beach at 9:00. Come to Nantucket, and enjoy the fun. Call Visitor Services at 508-228-0925 for more info and brochures as the date approaches.
