Wellfleet Strawberry Festival: A Century-Old Tradition
The Wellfleet Historical Society and Museum (//www.wellfleethistoricalsociety.org) will hold its annual Strawberry Festival on Sunday, July 5, 2015 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm in the garden behind Preservation Hall. Admission is $8.00. In case of rain, the festival will be held inside Preservation Hall. (//wellfleetpreservationhall.org/index.php/component/rsevents/event/3556-wellfleet-strawberry-festival)
The history of the Strawberry Festival can be traced back to an article in The Advocate of June, 1912, making this event the 103rd celebration of a Wellfleet tradition.
Old-fashioned strawberry shortcake will be served. Music will be provided by celtic musicians, and other musicians are invited to bring their instruments and participate in the session.
The proceeds of the Strawberry Festival will be used to renovate the newly-purchased middle section of the Wellfleet Historical Society and Museum. The restoration of the facade of the building will greatly improve the historic appearance of Wellfleet's Main Street. This acquisition nearly doubles the total space of the museum, giving the Historical Society room to archive and protect its collections, and exhibition space to bring to life the story of Wellfleet's remarkable people.
