The Mandolin Orchestra

The Mandolin Orchestra of South Hadley was founded in 2012. With the emergence of folk music, the mandolin regained popularity, and mandolin orchestras have since burgeoned. Today, many U.S. cities have mandolin orchestras, and their presence abroad, which never waned, also continues to grow. The available body of music for mandolin orchestras is vast, ranging from classical to swing to jazz and everything in between.

The Mandolin Orchestra of South Hadley is partnered with the Celtic Music Academy of Massachusetts, a community of Celtic and Classically-trained musicians, borne out of the same ideals as the Mandolin Orchestra --to nurture the growth of music and art as an integral part of the community.

One of the primary goals of the Mandolin Orchestra is to provide unique performance and educational opportunities for music enthusiasts of all ages and levels of expertise.

The Mandolin Orchestra has approximately eight members and is comprised of mandolins, mandolas, mandocellos, and double basses. Within the Mandolin Orchestra is a smaller group of musicians--the Mandolin Group Class--which rehearses and performs with, as well as separately from, the entire Orchestra, and, occasionally, hosts special guest musicians.
