The 2013 New Bedford Folk Festival, formerly called New Bedford Summerfest, will feature the best in contemporary, traditional and Celtic folk music from Saturday July 6 through Sunday July 7, 2013, between 11:00 AM and 9:00 PM. The festival is located in the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center and the Whaling National Historical Park in New Bedford, Massachusetts. The New Bedford Folk Festival called "one of the most exciting and smartly programmed festivals in the Northeast" and "New England's most enjoyable folk festival" is an affordable destination for families seeking a fun-filled weekend. Featured among the nearly fifty musical acts are Lori McKenna, Cheryl Wheeler, John Gorka, Ellis Paul, Anais Mitchell, The Grand Slambovians, Vishtèn, Kevin Burke, Antje Duvekot, Michael Johnson, Brooks Williams, Beppe Gambetta, and the John Whalen Trio. The New Bedford Folk Festival presents the best in folk and acoustic music on seven stages in and around the National Park that range from the 1200 seat Zeiterion Performing Arts Center to the intimacy of the "Meet the Performer" area. Performers are presented in concerts and in the popular festival "workshops" which are gatherings of musicians in shows you have never seen before and will not see again. The festival also features a high quality crafts show with over ninety juried, handmade crafts for sale at affordable prices. Food will also be available including the justifiably world famous New Bedford landed fish and scallops. Since the New Bedford Folk Festival is a family event, a children's activities area will also be featured. The lineup of performers is as follows: Jim and Cindy Bean, Roy Book Binder, Benoit Bourque and Son, Maggie Boyle with Paul Downes, Kevin Burke, Susie Burke and David Surette, Howie Bursen, Jeff Davis, Antje Duvekot, Marina Evans, Finest Kind, Ari and Mia Friedman, Beppe Gambetta, Raymond Gonzalez, John Gorka, The Grand Slambovians, Kim and Reggie Harris, Michael Johnson, The Kennedys, Jeremy Kittel, Peter Lang, Lori McKenna, Anais Mitchell and Jefferson Hamer, Mustard's Retreat, Chris Pahud, Ellis Paul, Sally Rogers, Claudia Schmidt, Art Tebbetts, Gareth Turner, Vishtèn, Cheryl Wheeler, John Whalen Trio, Brooks Williams. All performers are subject to change. Festival hours are Saturday and Sunday, July 6 and 7 from 11:00AM to 9:00PM. A Weekend Pass (Saturday and Sunday) purchased in advance online is $20. Special advance weekend passes at $15 available only by purchasing in person at the New Bedford Whaling Museum and the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center. Prices during festival weekend are $20 a day/$25 Weekend Pass/$15 Student Weekend Pass with student ID. Children under 12 are free.
