Winter has arrived in Massachusetts, and so have you.   Perhaps you are here for a convention, or you’re looking at colleges.  Maybe you are on school vacation with the kids, or here to visit family and friends. winter-landing-page

No matter – the Mass Office of Travel & Tourism has compiled a list of 100 + free events taking place all across the Bay State this winter that will enhance your visitor experience and add value to your budget.

Wicked Free Winter Fun runs through March 31, 2016 and is cataloged by the state’s six regions: Greater Boston, North of Boston, South of Boston, Cape Cod & The Islands, Central Massachusetts and Western Massachusetts.

Whether you’re here for a day or for a week, there’s plenty of wicked free things to do.

Let’s start indoors.  Dozens of Massachusetts museums offer free visits on specific days of the week; we’ll tell you when and where. How about free movies, art exhibits, or star gazing from an observatory?  You can also take brewery tours, hear live music, go to lectures and or try your hand at comedy workshops.

Now let’s go outdoors.  The Massachusetts Department of Conservation & Recreation, Trustees of the Reservations and local cities and towns oversee a winter wonderland for the next three months. Try a guided hike in our state parks, go bird-watching in one of our state reservations, or ice skate at one of our state-run rinks.

Winter festivals or carnivals are also annual traditions in Chelmsford, Dunstable, Eastham, North Adams and Lowell. Or check out one of our open air farmers or flea markets.

  • It’s so fun to see how other people are decorating their homes! This is also a great way to find inspiration. The way she mixed her prints, for example, makes this master bedroom look especially charming.
