December is filled with tons of ways to get “in the spirit”  on Nantucket Island. From shopping to strolling, festivals to festivities and even one big movie premier – here are three ways to celebrate during the most wonderful time of the year.

The Nantucket Chamber of Commerce hosts the 42nd Annual Nantucket Christmas Stroll. This celebratory stroll weekend brings out a full 3 days of supporting small business, seeing Santa arrive via Coast Guard boat, and sipping and snacking at many of the island’s famed establishments. Make sure to wear some holiday cheer and if you miss out on this years, book early for 2016 – I often consider this like a July 4th of the winter.

Originally set to launch in March, In The Heart of the Sea, Ron Howard’s epic film, kept us in suspense until the holiday season. Based on the story of the whale ship Essex, and written by beloved local author Nat Philbrick, this super buzzed about movie is sure to be a  holiday treat – and what better way to see this Nantucket based film than the Dreamland Theater on island. Premiers December 11th.

Celebrating its fourth year, the Nantucket New Years festival is a wonderful way to cap off 2015 and begin 2016. And did you know that the first place to see the sun rise on the east coast on January 1st is Nantucket island?! Family friendly, great for girlfriends, cool for couples and an all around perfect way to end yet begin another Nantucket season! Make sure to check out the annual New Years Ball at The Nantucket Hotel… always a fun party!
