Summer’s waning days are a perfect opportunity to sit in an outdoor café, sip a brew or nice glass of wine, and order your favorite dishes!

Boston had one of the best summers in some time, both in terms of weather and tourism business. It’s not too late to savor the remaining days of the season, and early fall can be just as beautiful as the leaves change color and the days turn cooler.

We’d like to share some favorite outdoor cafés, both older and classic and spanking new this year, so grab the season with both hands and make some reservations.

We’ll look at five lovely and even unusual cafés where you can do just that in five very lively neighborhoods:

Banyan Bar + Refuge

SOUTH END  – In one of the city’s best ‘hoods for dining, a new restaurant, Banyan Bar + Refuge, with Chef Philip Tang at the helm, opened this summer in the spot where Hamersley’s  Bistro held sway for many years. Relax in the outdoor patio and enjoy contemporary Asian cuisine.  617-556-4211

At Cinquencento – The Aquitaine Group’s Italian restaurant on Harrison Ave. added the small, unique Rosso Patio Bar to its existing patio this spring, made out of shipping containers.  It’s small (12 seats) so get an early start and secure your space!  617-338-9500

FORT POINT CHANNEL  – The Barking Crab celebrates 22 years this year of serving fish and seafood on the Boston waterfront. This year, the vibrant institution has a brand new tent and outdoor café for locals and tourists to enjoy.  617-426-2722.

BACK BAY – Bar Bouludthe Boston outpost of New York’s acclaimed Chef Daniel Boulud, opened last fall in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and this spring, added the 40-seat outdoor café offering the full menu from noon to 10 p.m. Inspired by the South of France’s Mediterranean coast, Chef de Cuisine, Aaron Chambers has created a seasonal menu that features fresh local produce, bright seasonal vegetables and family-style dishes to share.

CHARLESTOWN – The Brewer’s Forkon Moulton St. downtown and a few blocks from the Navy Yard, opened this year by industry veterans Mike Cooney and Chef John Paine, quickly became a hot new spot for a regularly changing craft beer list, well-designed wine list, appetizers, small plates and delicious pizzas from a huge wood-burning oven. A new patio this spring adds additional seats, so check it out for weekend brunch as well as daily lunches and dinners. 617-337-5703

KENMORE SQUARE – Josephine Restaurant Parisien brings a touch of Paris to the Fenway area with a sophisticated and approachable menu of casual-chic contemporary dishes as beautiful as they are tasty. Read the menu online  and find yourself transported to a café on the Seine! 617-375-0699

SOMERVILLE – River Bara new concept this year from restaurateur Ken Kelly with Patrick Gilmartin as chef, brings a small but worth visiting restaurant and outdoor patio bar to the Mystic River setting at Assembly Row. Fire pits in the outdoor patio lend their charm to the experience. Don’t forget to try the beef brisket sandwich.  617-616-5561
