It’s pumpkin season! So, for those interested in a little culinary inspiration with the holidays just around the corner, why not take on enjoy some variations of this American fall staple from top Massachusetts chefs, who have been turning to the flavors of pumpkin for everything from classic, comfort dishes to nostalgic desserts.

Today on MassFinds, we’re shining a spotlight on five restaurants with pumpkin-inspired creations!

Red-wine braised Short Ribs with Fall Pumpkin and Mascarpone Gnocchi at Atria Restaurant and Brick Cellar Bar in Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard

Christian Thornton, the chef at Atria, hails from California’s Napa Valley, which is, of course, well known as a wine haven. This season, some of the wine in Chef Thornton’s extensive collection is being used to braise tender, juicy short ribs, which are served beside a pillow-like pumpkin and mascarpone gnocchi. Pumpkin Steamed Pudding at Hungry Mother in Cambridge, MA

Hungry Mother Pastry Chef Rachel Sundet has taken a classic recipe and put an autumn twist on it, with pumpkin sugar and maple syrup. Brittle and pumpkin seeds sit atop this delectable dessert, which is finished with bourbon-spiked whipped cream. Pumpkin Mash with Marshmallows, Fried Sage and Pickled Chanterelles at Fish Restaurant and Bar in Marlborough, MA

With fish in the name of the restaurant, it’s no surprise that this pumpkin-infused meal comes with something from the ocean. Chef Sasha St. Germain created the pumpkin mash, which incorporates marshmallows, fried sage and picked chanterelles, as a side to the menu’s notable fish entrees. When the fish and mash are through, there’s plenty to choose from for after dinner, too.

Apple Cider Tempura Shrimp with local Pumpkin and Fresh Herb Risotto at Left Bank Restaurant in Tyngsboro, MA

The Stonehedge Inn and Spa isn’t just a place where weary souls can come to relax and recharge; it also houses The Left Bank Restaurant, a welcome destination for hungry passersby. Inside the kitchen, Chef Florent Boutet mixes cider-battered shrimp with pumpkin, white wine and fresh herbs to concoct a dish that’s equal parts shapely, seasonal and flavorful. Pumpkin Curry at The People’s Pint in Greenfield, MA

Between home-brewed beer and handpicked local ingredients, people already have ample reason to flock to The People’s Pint. With the addition of Pumpkin Curry to the menu, they’ve now got yet another! Chef Josh Breitner will put some of those local veggies to good use in this new fall fare, which is accompanied on the menu by squash and apple dishes as well.
