Rockport Music Theatre presents "The Magistrate" at 7 p.m. on
January 17th! Academy Award nominee and Tony Award-winner John
Lithgow takes the title role in the uproarious Victorian farce, in a
production sure to have audiences doubled up with laughter. When
amiable magistrate Posket (John Lithgow) marries Agatha, little does
he realize she's dropped five years from her age. When her deception
looks set to be revealed, it sparks a series of hilarious indignities
and outrageous mishaps.
Located in the scenic seaport village of Rockport, the Music Theatre
presents exceptional musical performances and events, including the
Rockport Chamber Music Festival and "Live from the MET"
Opera in HD. North Shore Magazine's 2011 reader's poll named the
Shalin Liu Performance Center "Best Live Music Venue."

The energetic and talented Jenny Mulqueen presents a
program of participatory songs and dances inspired by the classic
tale "Stone Soup" at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 26th
at The James Library & Center for the Arts
in Norwell. This engaging program is a celebration of stories, music

On January 4-6, the New Bedford Whaling Museum
hosts the 17th
Annual Moby Dick: The Marathon, a non-stop reading of
the great American classic commemorating the anniversary of the
departure from the whaling port of New Bedford of the Fairhaven ship
Acushnet with 21-year-old Herman Melville aboard. The Marathon has
grown to become a mid-winter tradition! Readers will include
descendants of Herman Melville and their families, and other lovers
of Melville and Moby-Dick. Admission is free.

Winter in New England will be a whole lot livelier in
2013 with the return of the 10X10 Upstreet Arts Festival in
downtown Pittsfield's Upstreet
Cultural District. From February 14-24, enjoy new

Worcester Art Museum and Tower Hill Botanic Garden
partner once again during Flora in Winter, a celebration of the
impending arrival of spring, for four days only from January 31st
through February 3rd! At WAM, breathtaking flowers bloom in the
galleries with stunning arrangements inspired by artwork. At Tower
Hill, with a nod to Shakespeare, the arrangements reflect on times of
rest and contemplation, evoking dreams and inspiring flower
fantasies-creating A Midwinter's Dream.

"Reel Laffs," a series of vintage classic
comedy films, will be screened Tuesdays in January at the Garden Cinemas in
downtown Greenfield! Shoo away the winter blahs by enjoying Cary

Exciting exhibitions await at the Museum of Fine Arts
in Boston! "In Your Face", on display through February 3rd,
is a provocative inside look at some of today's most elusive and
exclusive subjects through the lens of renowned fashion and portrait
photographer Mario Testino. Testino's "British Royal
Portraits" is on display through June 16th. This exhibit showcases
images Testino has taken of the royal family over the years, from
Diana, Princess of Wales to most recently the engagement portraits of
Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod and Cotuit Center for
the Arts announce the seventh year of their collaborative winter
exhibit from January 7-February 23! This year's interactive art
exhibit - "Making
Waves" -will feature local artists'
interpretations of "making waves," both literally and
figuratively. Keeping younger patrons in mind, artwork will be
displayed at children's eye level, and a series of child-friendly
events are scheduled throughout the month. This family fun exhibit at

CityStage and Symphony Hall
in Springfield have several great shows lined up this winter!
Comedian Paul D'Angelo visits CityStage on January 19th, followed by
"You Say Tomato, I Say Shut Up!" February 20-24 and Bowfire
on February 28; Symphony Hall shows include PFX (the Pink Floyd
Experience) on February 8th, and "A Chorus Line" on

You don't have to travel halfway around the world to
experience stunning examples of African craftsmanship - just head to
Clinton, where you'll find the Gallery of African Art! Launched
just over a year ago, the gallery created by retired industrialist
Gordon Lankton (who also established the nearby Museum of Russian
Icons) has already quadrupled in size. Today, more than 500 pieces -
from masks to large figures - representing 30 African tribes fill the
expanded High Street gallery.

The Annual
MVY Big Chili Contest will be held Saturday, January
28th at 11 a.m. at The Portuguese American Club in Oak Bluffs! The
Big Chili Contest is the place to be to warm up on a chilly January
day. Over 20 chili-testants compete for the bragging rights to
a variety of titles such as "is it really chili?",
"hottest chili" and prizes in the professional and amateur
classes. Tons of people flock to the island for a zany day of
chili, fun and live music!

The Bay State Winter Games
return to Berkshire County February 15-17 for the 28th year! Nearly
1,000 athletes, ranging in age from 8 to 80+ and representing five
New England states, will compete in Figure Skating, Alpine Skiing and
Ice Hockey. Venues include Williams College in Williamstown, Bousquet
Ski area in Pittsfield and the Peter Foote Memorial Rink in North
Adams. Special events include an athlete party and Figure Skating

welcomes a guest tenor and horn player for works by Stravinsky,
Mozart, and Britten, entitled "Elegantly Sublime." The

presents Meet the Beatles on January 13th. The world's premier
touring guitar festival, International Guitar Night, comes to The Center for the Arts in Natick
